i ran across mildred loving's death yesterday, but didn't read the statement by mrs. loving until today, and it literally brought tears to my eyes. mildred and her husband, richard, changed history when they challenged (and successfully overturned!) the supreme court's ban on interracial marriage in 1967.
PLEASE read mildred's statement "loving for all" if you have time. it is heartwarming and uplifting, and she wrote it last year on the 40th anniversary of the supreme court's ruling in her favor.

i started this whole blogging thing in october 2007 basically to feed my ego and make my personal musings very public. [well, and i was getting so lazy with email, you know? that, and a little bored online to be honest. i can only read the gossip at the superficial and the news at cnn so many times a day. oh, i have other bookmarks ... and some minor compulsions.]
there is absolutely no reason for me to have a blog. my life is pretty dull. lately i'm very despondent about turning 30 and having accomplished ... erm, nothing. i suppose i will use this space to try and be funny and grateful and more loving. i have a lot to be thankful for in my life, i know this in theory. i also have a very specific list of shit i meant to have done by now. so, it's a constant battle to remember what's most important.
someday i will explain "carpe lucis," promise. i have a lot to get to first.

Hi Silvia, my long lost friend. I read your blog from time to time whenever I need a laugh... and today it almost made me cry over my turkey sandwich (free from the lunch and learn I'm blowing off). Thanks. :) Maybe one day things will change for all couples...

i hope things will change in this country for all couples, too ... we are overdue. hopefully the tides are turning. wasn't it perfect mildred and richard's last name was "loving," so the court case was "loving v virginia"?? ha.
